Venkatesh Naik, GVP Thanda, Telangana, “l have six acres of land in which I grow groundnut. This is an arid land. The 200 households in this village depend on rain for irrigation. About 15-20 families own bore wells. By growing groundnuts we lost more money than we invested. We the farmers came it an agreement where ten families drilled a bore well and groundwater is shared. Every day one farmer gets to irrigate one acre of their land. And on a rotation basis, all of us get enough water. We have also taken up horticulture like mango, sapodilla and berries. Compared to three years ago the seed quality is very good. We have done our own watershed activities to help us recharge the groundwater.”
