“I lost my eyesight when I was 14. I used to get severe headaches and my eyes weren’t sharp. The doctors who had come to my school for annual checkups told me to go to a hospital and have my eyes checked but my parents did not have the money to take me to a hospital. A year from then I lost my eyesight. I wish we had the money to go to the hospital. I stopped going to school as the kids would tease me. I was depressed. But I made to my mind to study and now I have a degree. I learnt basket making, chair weaving and sometimes I help women on their hairstyles for weddings or other events. It’s all good now.” Malligamma, Chamarajanagar, Karnataka.
