Amrit Mahal Kaval, the grasslands were given to the breeders of the Amrit Mahal cattle a strong breed used as a war-time animal that adapted very well to drought conditions. Now the Science City by the Government has usurped over 9000 acres leaving pastoralists and livestock rearers nowhere to graze and are forced to buy fodder from the markets.
“I’m selling all my sheep. We are not allowed to graze the sheep like we used to, all our grazing lands are now fenced,” said the lady, Mangalamma. The pastoralists in Chellakere, India have lost more than 9000 acres of land for government projects without any compensation. The grasslands are not accessible to them anymore, this pushing their livelihood to the brink.
